Who Belongs to
Therapy Dogs of Central Wisconsin?
Volunteer handlers and their dogs belong to Therapy Dogs of
Central Wisconsin. TDI (Therapy Dogs, International) dogs are
all shapes and sizes; real dogs with real personalities and real
love to share. Some have pedigrees that stretch to next week,
some have been adopted from a rescue group or shelter. All of
them are very proud to wear their TDI tags.
All dogs are tested and evaluated for therapy work by a
certified TDI evaluator. While many dogs provide love and
companionship at home, not all dogs are qualified to have the
temperament suited to be a Therapy Dog. The standards pertaining
to temperament of the potential therapy dog are extremely high.
Your craft will combine dogs with health care and education in
ways that encourage people to meet functional goals. You need
only to look deep into your dogs eyes to appreciate the every
day hero in the reflection. And the message they deliver every
time they visit: "You are just right. I love you just the way
you are. You are just right."
To become a volunteer you should be prepared to share the love
and companionship of your therapy dog with others and further
the human-animal bond by adhering to a schedule of regular
visits and continuous training.
Therapy Dogs of Central Wisconsin is a non-profit organization.
There is no charge for visitations. All funds are derived from
associate membership dues and donations. |
